In 2022 ECTC has been successful in securing EU Funding through the EU LIFE-2021-CET (LIFE Clean Energy Transition) as a member of a consortium of other citizen energy cooperatives.

The ‘One Stop Renovation Co-op’ (OSR-Coop) project will see the further development and piloting of three cooperative One-stop-shop (OSS) building renovation services into integrated services with a focus on deep renovation for households. For all 3000+ European citizen energy cooperatives and communities (‘cooperatives’/’coops’) to be able to learn from the project and to support replication of the developed model, an easily accessible replication toolkit and training will be created and disseminated within this project throughout Europe.

The consortium brings together frontrunner cooperatives already deploying home renovation services at the local level in a variety of contexts and geographical areas (Belgium, Ireland and France). In their current services, the cooperatives involve and co-ordinate actors throughout the value chain, including energy advisors, architects, renovation practitioners, contractors and ICT software engineers.

However, the current services limit themselves to single interventions or they have no specific target group, and in most cases still depend upon public support, both financially and practically. The project will involve the identification of best cooperative practices in the areas of service actions, customer journey, ICT and data development, and business models. It will incorporate these best practices into financially viable cooperatively run integrated renovation services, with a focus on deep renovation.

Through community social marketing, citizen-led energy cooperatives can leverage the greater levels of householder trust necessary to undertake deep renovation activity. The involvement of REScoop.eu provides a European wide network of energy cooperatives with organisational capacity to replicate the service and with clients ready and waiting to commission services.

The general objective of this project is for three frontrunners in citizen- and community-led home renovation services, Energent (ENER, Belgium), Energy Communities Tipperary Cooperative (ECTC, Ireland), and Les7Vents (7VEN, France) to together develop an integrated home renovation service that can be replicable in Europe. This involves:

  1. Optimise integrated One-stop-shop (OSS) service models for deep renovations being run by citizen energy cooperatives (we call this model a ‘One-Stop-Renovation Cooperative service’ or ‘OSR-Coop’);
  2. Carry out an iterative process of testing these service models in real-life pilots, and
  3. Transcribe the learning into a detailed replication toolkit that allows replication by all citizen energy cooperatives and communities in Europe.

Description

In recent years, several cooperatives from different EU member states have gained substantial experience in cooperative renovation services. The services they offer are mostly targeting single renovation actions or have a very general approach on deep renovations (for example, not specifically targeting any type of households). Many other cooperatives have put their toe in the water and have begun to offer services often replicated from the frontrunner coops. As an example, ENER has transferred (replicated) several of its renovation services to 6 other coops in Belgium the last 2 years (Campina, Zuidtrant, Zonnewind, Megawattpuur, Ecoob and Klimaan). ECTC has also expanded from four founder communities to now being a cooperative of over 15 member communities.

With this OSR-Coop project, we would be able to build on this existing momentum, further develop the services into integrated services, and encourage replication beyond the home countries of the consortia members.

Webinar 6th September 2023

Democratising the Renovation Wave – Citizen-led Renovation and One Stop Shops

With the need to vastly increase the citizen-led eco renovation of homes across Europe, the OSR-Coop Project and its current research are focused on the role energy cooperatives play in deploying One-Stop Shop renovation business models.

In this webinar, which takes place on 6th September 2023 at 4pm Irish time, we will share findings from the OSR-Coop LIFE Project (2022-2025) funded by the EU, highlighting the added value Citizen-led One Stop Shops can offer over alternative approaches. We will also discuss exemplary case studies from different Citizen-led One Stop Shops, showcasing their unique aspects.

Finally, this webinar is an opportunity to also launch the project’s new research survey, aimed at gathering more data on the needs of new and prospective Citizen-led One Stop Shops.

We are looking forward to meeting you online on 6 September 2023, Wednesday, starting from 4pm Irish time (17:00 CEST Brussels).
