General Manager – Energy Communities Tipperary Cooperative (new position)

Energy Communities Tipperary Cooperative (ECTC) is seeking a  General ManagerEnergy Communities Tipperary Cooperative (ECTC) is seeking a  General Manager to coordinate and lead our mission of the Energy Transition in the service of local communities.

The candidate will be joining the organisation at an exciting time, as we build up a team to deliver on our mission of making the energy transition benefit our member communities. As our General Manager, you will have a key role in building capacity with both staff and contracted parties to expand our offering in member communities, as a One Stop Shop delivering innovative energy renovation and generation projects. You will coordinate the consolidation of our unique business model of community-led energy renovation, and lead our EU LIFE OSR-Coop Project (One Stop Renovation Coop) together with 2 other pioneering citizen-led renovation cooperatives from Normandy and Belgium, and the European Federation of Energy Cooperatives,

Energy Communities Tipperary Cooperative CLG (ECTC) is a not-for-profit company, whose vision is to mobilise communities in Tipperary, and neighbouring counties, to create local employment and community benefit through reducing their carbon footprint and generating community owned energy. Since 2012, ECTC and our member communities have leveraged over €12 million in investment, and created local jobs upgrading over 900 homes and 35 community facilities. ECTC’s voluntary board directors are drawn from a network of voluntary community groups including Birdhill Tidy Towns Group, Drombane/Upperchurch Energy Team, Kilcommon/Rearcross/Hollyford Energy Team, Lorrha/Rathcabbin Energy Group, Slieve Felim Energy Team (Cappamore), Knockavilla, Cloughjordan, Terryglass, Kantoher, Cratloe, Clonoulty/Rossmore, Loughmore/Castleiney, Littleton Development Association and Ballingarry Community Development.

At board level, we operate on the basis of consensus and are committed to a bottom-up, cooperative ethos.  Since 2014, members of the group have overseen a number of successful projects under SEAI’s Better Energy Communities Scheme, Sustainable Energy Communities Scheme and Deep Retrofit Scheme. ECTC won the SEAI Best Community at the 2017 SEAI Energy Awards and was shortlisted for the 2022 Inspirational Energy Community Award. We are  delivering an innovative Just Transition project in Littleton and Ballingarry, and undertaking feasibility into a model of community rooftop solar. Candidate profile:

  • Qualification/Degree in Business, Energy, or related field and/or Equivalent Prior Learning in experience.

  • Experience in project/financial management an advantage

  • Experience in working in Cooperative, Social Enterprise or Community Development sector.

  • Experience and understanding of Social Enterprise/Cooperative Business and its difference relative to other business forms, including funding and staffing structures.

  • Good communication and reporting skills

  • Experience in leading a remote workforce and in using online collaboration platforms (e.g. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365) and CRM systems.

  • Full Clean Drivers Licence an advantage
